Macau welcomes 2.21 million visitor arrivals in May, slightly down month-on-month

Macau recorded a total of 2,213,807 visitor arrivals in May, an increase of 268.5% compared to the same month last year although 2.6% lower compared with April.
According to data from the Statistics and Census Service, May’s visitor numbers included 1,474,304 from Mainland China – an increase of 170% year-on-year – of which 840,797 arrived under the Individual Visitor Scheme. There were also 601,991 arrivals from Hong Kong and 31,537 from Taiwan, up by 960% and 470% respectively.
The number of visitors from the nine Pearl River Delta cities in the Greater Bay Area increased by 77.2% to 715,941, of which 193,944 were from Zhuhai and 150,260 from Guangzhou. These accounted for 27.1% and 21.0% of the total number of mainland visitors.
Visitation included 1,124,977 same-day visitors, up 210% year-on-year, and 1,088,830 overnight visitors, up 350%. The average length of stay for visitors was 1.2 days, up 0.3 days year-on-year.
By mode of arrivals, Macau saw 1,743,740 arrivals by land in May, with 311,875 arrivals by ferry and 158,192 arrivals by air.
For the first five months of 2023 combined there were 9,436,215 arrivals, up 210% year-on-year, including 4,904,039 overnight visitors and 4,532,176 same-day visitors.
